BESS Project
Tiln

Evergy was mandated to carry out Technical Due Diligence for the acquisition of the Tiln Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the United Kingdom.

Located approximately 35 km east of Sheffield near Retford, the free-field Tiln BESS project was installed adjacent to an operational solar PV plant. The battery storage system consists of total 26 cabinets sorted into four blocks. The bigger blocks have an export/import capacity of 8.78 MW (2 x 4.39 MW), whereas the smaller blocks have a capacity of 4.39 MW. The system is connected to the grid at 132 kV voltage level. The BESS was commissioned in August 2024.

The services of Evergy comprised in particular:

  • Evaluation of the technical concept and design
  • Review of project contracts (EPC, O&M, transformer station)
  • Evaluation of warranty conditions by the battery supplier

I joined Evergy straight after my studies. I received very good support and encouragement. I have the feeling that I am doing something meaningful here. I still remember an inspection trip to Portugal: in the middle of the project area was a creek that we could only cross by off-road vehicle and a small, deserted village which was preserved. That was quite unusual.
